Jean-Pierre Petit is an astrophysicist and a research director for CNRS (National French Center for Scientific Research). He is one of the very few scientists who fights for peace in denouncing the cowardly and suicidal manoeuvres of scientifico-military circles. His critical artistic and scientific works emphasize the importance of doubt. Auto-interview

You’re approaching retirement. What effect does that have on you ? It changes absolutely nothing in regards to my way of life, of thinking, of working and of producing. However, when one is 65 years old one can no longer say "what will I do later ?" It is later. You have to decide what your priorities are. Personally, I see myself abandoning astrophysics and cosmology after 15 years of non-stop research.

Why ? Because my ideas are emerging under other names, notably Anglo-Saxon, with the collusion of French scientific popularization journals like Pour la Science, Ciel et Espace (May 2002). One can endure being unknown, but having one’s work pillaged, no. It’s a choice between developing an ulcer or giving it up. I chose the second for medical reasons.

Your fans must be dismayed... In 1987 I did the same thing with my research on magnetohydrodynamics (MHD). Current science and technology will soon show - via American military applications - that I was 25 years ahead of everyone else. It may be the same situation with my research in astrophysics and cosmology, and everyone knows that it isn’t good to be too far in advance.

What are you going to do now ? Write songs, compose music or author science fiction novels. Those who go to my website will find out.

So, no more research ? Not at all. I have things to publish in Egyptology. I think I will return to Logic.

And the UFOs ? I wrote a book entitled, OVNIS et Armes Secrètes Américaines (UFOs and classified American weapons) where I show how the Americans, having recuperated a hypersonic shuttle in Roswell in 1947, laboriously rebuilt it. One of the results of this military research is the American hypersonic vessel Aurora, which can reach a speed of 10,000 Km/h at an altitude of 60 Kms.

What is the Aurora ? It’s the successor to the spy plane Blackbird SR-71. The Aurora is actually low orbit (80Kms) satellite, which can take off and land anywhere by its own means. The engine uses extensively MHD technology, which I introduced in 1977. In the book I will give all of the technical details. I’m not actually sure that my editor will accept publishing the book "in its current state", with the direct link between American hyper-technology and UFOs. I have the impression that "he’s had enough". Nonetheless, all of this information comes from first-hand sources.

You decidedly stick your nose into everyone’s business. There are so many things going on that people ignore, or that they want to ignore. Often times I think of myself as Cassandra, the woman from Troy that Apollo cursed - that of always telling the truth and never being believed.

What is so unbelievable ? You’d like an example ? In 1996 the French officially ended their underground nuclear testing in Mururoa. They then announced to the public that a "laser fusion" bank, named "Mégajoule" was being installed in Bordeaux, allowing them to "simulate nuclear explosions". This project (set to begin in 2008) is a total fake. First they plan to fuse a mixture of deuterium and tritium, which has never been accomplished with the help of lasers. Real bombs function on lithium hydrate, which is solid at normal temperatures, whereas this D-T mixture has to be cooled to - 250°C. In addition, the development of this project is moving at a camel’s pace, which is not in sync with the strategic importance that is placed upon it. In fact, it is nothing but a cover-up project.

That means that other research is being carried out elsewhere ? In another country ? I think that underground nuclear testing has been taking place in France, at the bottom of the Gardanne mine, for ten to twelve years. The thick layer of lignite suppresses the sound waves. The residents, who live a substantial distance away, only feel "mysterious vibrations". The Americans and the Russians use the same technology, but they have deserted regions in which to operate.

That’s crazy ! That’s why no one believes it. However, France would not spend decades without carrying out any sort of thermonuclear experiments.

What does the Green Party think of this ? They need to start thinking about the question. I believe that they are more preoccupied with showing the public that they ride bicycles.

These aren’t just suppositions ? Hmmm... In 2000 a housekeeper in Gardanne saw members of the CEA (French department for Atomic Energy) installing radioactivity detectors in the basement of Elsa Triolet preschool. Normally, researching radioactive leaks in sedimentary ground is a geologic aberration. I believe that these people were looking for other kinds of leaks.

This is huge ! Like contaminated blood, mad cow, and animal based livestock feed. I say what I know, that’s all.

And the UFOs ? Or the Ummo case ? There are so many things to be passionate about, but it would take up too much space to talk about all of them in your columns. Readers who want to know more can subscribe to GESTO (Group for the Scientific Study of UFOs), our association, for 30 Euros. A large, rather shocking report will be sent in return. This year’s harvest for the report was quite passionate.

What do your scientific colleagues think ? I’m not quite sure that scientists are capable of thinking. The phenomenon of one who does think is exceptional. Contemporary science is at a level of lamentable mediocrity. Upheld by the media, which spend their time claiming that "We discovered this and that !". In fact, they’re cooking up theories about supercords and black holes across various galaxies, while producing practically nothing, and they are considered "reputable". Scientific blabber is simply boring.

That would mean that we live in an era where nothing is happening ? On the contrary, a lot of things are happening, we just don’t want to see them. For instance the UFO phenomenon, or the fact that high-speed crafts fly closer and closer to the Earth, and more and more often.

You’re worrying me... Don’t worry, we live in a fantastic time. We are going to bear witness to so many things, and we won’t have the time to be bored.

Why did you choose the auto-interview ?
Because it’s simpler. But I can answer additional questions.

What risks are we taking in publishing your interview ?
It depends on what "trough" you eat out of. If you’re independent you risk nothing.

Why this five year long media silence, and why did you decide to speak up now ?
I tried to play the "scientific game". I also got tired of confrontations with "ufologists" in television interviews. Before studying astrophysics and cosmology, I spent 20 years on MHD. I fought as much as I could. Finally, I abandoned in 1986. In January 2003, I published a book through Albin Michel entitled OVNIS et Armes Secrètes Américaines. In reading the book people will learn a lot, and will discover the hallucinating advance that the Americans have in hypersonic flight, which is where MHD comes in. Europeans will discover that they won’t be able to catch up because they are 25 years behind in the matter. The fact that all of this corresponds with what I tried in vain to push during the seventies is of little consolation. It’s a fact, that’s all. Let’s just say that after 5 years of silence I felt the need to publish everything that I know. I had also finished publishing my work on astrophysical and cosmological theory, after an international colloquium. I could therefore speak more freely. That is the objective of this book, rather rich and structured somewhat like English pudding, with a lot of varied ideas. For example, inside the book one will find unedited letters that I received from Ummits. I’m approaching retirement, which does not at all mean that I’m going to "close up shop", quite the contrary. All it means is that I will no longer have to constantly produce scientific results in order to keep my employer - the CNRS - happy. I will have more freedom of movement. I will engage in different battles. Right now there are things on Earth that urgently need to be said and done. I believe that we live in a key era, which is not necessarily agreeable. Being at the sunset of my career inspires me to set a "poser" in the form of a question. In twelve letters : who is capable of speaking on a subject of which he knows nothing, and upon which he has made no effort to develop his knowledge ?

The Ummo file contains information from all realms of knowledge, and you seem to be interested by philosophy and spirituality. How did the Ummo information develop your spiritual practice, and how can it help ours to develop ?
I don’t have any spiritual practices, because of sheer incapability. I believe that the conscience goes far beyond intelligence, and that things are far more complicated than we can imagine. I don’t know where the truth lies. It might be that the truth has the aspects of a kaleidoscope. I believe that we must be modest in regards to knowledge and our image of the universe. The phrase, "All that I know is that I don’t know anything" is more appropriate than ever.

Is it true that, " the humanoid form would be an obligatory point of passage for the world of the living in order to develop our intelligence and gain access to the conscience" ?
According to the Ummites, yes. I don’t have an answer to that question, but it seems as though the universe is less imaginative than science fiction authors would like to believe. There’s only about one hundred stable atoms, those from the Mendeleïev table. I believe that carbon-based chemistry is the only one that can create life forms. On the other hand we might be in store for some surprises as to the definition of "humanoid form". For example I wouldn’t exclude the possibility that there exist humanoid forms evolved from reptilian origins (oviparous).

What are some concrete applications (revealed by the Ummits, for example) on the philosophical, nutritional and architectural levels that the individual can put into practice in order to evolve towards self-transcendance ?
If I said that the most important thing that I gained from these texts was a catastrophic vision of the state of humanity ? We are...mentally ill. I installed on my site some information taken from a recent television show about how the Japanese used Chinese civilians, between 1931 and 1940, in order to develop biological weapons. That pushes the limits of horror. Men were used as "human incubators", then anesthetized and bled to harvest the most virulent colonies. Those that resisted the human immunological system. We know that the Japanese sent lightly charged balloons to the West Coast of the United States, but we never understood their purpose. We now know that these frail machines were supposed to carry plague, typhus and cholera. Some of my correspondents related to me details concerning the manner in which the English eliminated the Huron people and the New Zealand natives by using fabric infected with Small Pox. This is nothing new. Through the years the Ummit texts have revealed that such horrors are constant. Under such conditions, what can we put into practice ? Everything seems so desperate. To be frank I think that we need to be put under a kind of tutorship, or something of the sort. We, earthlings, are incapable of controlling ourselves. In my last book, I show for example that if the Americans, in being the first to find a wreck in Roswell in 1947, having convinced themselves of the extraterrestrial nature of the UFOs, made it so that they were the only ones to exploit this "treat", from which they developed nothing but weapons.

"The inadequacy of our archaic mental schemas when faced with new technology renders problematic the survival of our species". What can we do to reevaluate our mental schemas ?
The Ummits say that we suffer from an archaism of our encephala, which has nothing to do an individual’s I.Q. We can therefore be "capable intellectually", yet remain extremely primitive in our behaviour, which is paradoxical. First of all, man will have to become conscious of the state of things, but this seems to be quite difficult. We live in a perverted world, in the psychological sense of the term.

In order to conduct your research, you have often used "guerilla" techniques (seizing materials illegally, subversion, living in hiding, clandestine research). Is this the only way to live as a "free" man ?
I haven’t found any other way. I know that I was able to express myself more freely as I worked for the State. If I had been part of a private company, I would have been reduced to silence much more easily. Internet represents a certain hope in that it is a free space. It is possibly our last hope.

How can one exist as a "free" man ?
My answer : Above else, work for the Government, and don’t hope for anything career-wise. Or else be born into a rich family, and have at your disposal a stable income. Otherwise, all men can be muzzled, reduced to silence, starting with... journalists.
